The Alamo - between the rain...

The Alamo - site of the infamous battle to establish the Texas Republic.

This venue provides a view of this most-famous mission without the clutter of buildings that sprouted around this location over the years.

Upon careful inspection, one can spot bullet holes, fragmented ledges, and inscriptions made by some of the famous inhabitants of the historic mission.

Well cared for and free to the public - the Alamo stands as a proud symbol for all, and for those that care for this historic landmark in San Antonio, Texas.

Thunder in the Garden

An afternoon thunderstorm steps into the Garden of the Gods, near Colorado Springs, Colorado. Hoped to catch an accompanying bolt of lightning in image, but available light did not allow for slow shutter speed need for capture.

Marsh Wild Fire 3-14-07

Noticed smoke rising around 6:00 p.m. from the south end of the Great Marsh, on the Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge, just to the west of our home. This fire apparently an unintentional burn took its direction from the 15+ mile an hour northerly winds and burned a swath up the eastern edge of the marsh - this picture was taken from our balcony in the front of our house. It is now 10:00 p.m. and the fire continues on its course of destruction. Fortunately no homes were ever in real danger. The local fire department and units from nearby Virginia Beach VA., monitored the burn's progress.

NC Brigade Cannon - Appomattax VA

A crisp beautiful fall day, and a piece of history share this view. The cannon - a relic from the Civil War is placed to recognize the efforts of the CSA North Carolina's Calvary Brigade that fired decisive blows against the North. This action is recognized as the LAST BATTERY TAKEN at Appomattax by the Confederates. This weapon serves as a memorial honoring this fact. Posted by Picasa
